At this meeting we will be electing new executive members and discussing where we hope to take the club in the new school year. Anyone interested in the One Health concept is encouraged to come out. Your involvement in the club can be as much or as little as you would like. There are a variety of positions available on the executive for any students interested in being more involved in the club. Feel free to have a look over these before the meeting. We are looking forward to seeing you there!!

We are finishing up our first year as a USSU ratified club. Thank you to all our club members, and everyone that attended and helped with our events. We have put together a very short survey to help us decide which types of events and presentations to plan in the coming year. The survey shouldn’t take more than 5-10 min to fill out. We appreciate your input!

ZOOEYIA SPEAKER SERIES: Dr. Rob Billington/ Dr. Tasha Epp

The One Health Club is excited to collaborate with the One Health Committee of the College of Medicine to bring you our last speaker series of the 2013/2014 school year.

‘One Health’ and the relationship between humans and animals are often discussed in the context of zoonotic disease. In focusing on the risk of human-animal interaction, the benefits of the human-animal bond can be overlooked. “zooeyia” is a term to describe the health benefits of companion animals and to provide a contrast to the term “zoonosis” which focuses on the risks animals pose to human health. Although the term ‘zooeyia’ is new, the human-animal bond is not. This speaker series will focus on the health benefits of companion animals, from both an animal health, and human health perspective.

A Veterinarians View of Zooeyia:
On April 2, Dr. Tasha Epp will present the topic of “zooeyia” from a veterinary prospective.
When: April 2, 2014 at 12:30p
Where: U of S Health Science Center, Room A204

A Family Physicians View of Zooeyia:
On April 3, Dr. Rob Billington will present the topic of ‘zooeyia’ from the prospective of a family physician.
When: April 3, 2014 at 12:30p
Where: WCVM, Room 2302
